Importing Files
Importing files from your file system allows you to add crosswords and/or templates into your library. Several formats are supported:
- *.cwx, *.cwt: these are Crossword Wrangler native file types for crosswords and templates respectively. These are currently only supported by Crossword Wrangler. These are the recommended formats for backup and restore purposes, as they support the full Crossword Wrangler data model.
- *.ipuz: The IPUZ format. This is a highly versatile open puzzle format that is widely supported. It supports a large number of puzzle types beyond traditional crosswords, not all of which Crossword Wrangler supports. Moreover, even for crossword types that Crossword Wrangler does support, some features (hints, some cell decoration types, zones) are not supported. Importing an IPUZ puzzle of unsupported type will produce an error alert; importing one with unsupported features will usually show a warning giving the features not imported.
- *.puz: This is an older but widely used format, introduced for Across Lite. Only blocked grids are supported by this format.
- *.jpz: This is another open puzzle format, and is used by applications such as CrossFire and Crossword Compiler. It supports blocked and barred grids. Again, it is only partially supported by Crossword Wrangler, and importing puzzles with unsupported features will produce warnings or errors.
